Substance abuse in educational
establishments in the UK is on the increase.
Drug
use by young people in the school environment poses many
challenges to all those responsible for the welfare of
students.
Our service is very much part of
an education process and is incorporated into the School
Drugs Education programme. In consultation with the School Head,
Governors, Police and School Nurse we deliver a package that
includes practical demonstrations and talks covering the
dangers of drugs abuse, the legal consequences and the
capabilities of a Passive Response Detection Dog.
We have found that the
service has proven to be popular with the pupils, parents
and teachers alike.
In association with North
Wales Police, Wagtail UK Limited has searched a number of
schools and colleges and other premises over the last 2
years.
Extracts from letter
received from North Wales Police in January 2006
Dear Collin
A short note of thanks to place
on record the invaluable assistance your team has provided
us in the last 2 years.
We have embarked in unfamiliar
territory with passive screening within the county's schools
and we have found the process to be greatly eased by your professionalism, tuition and enthusiasm for the process.
We have found you to fully
understand and respect the sensitive aspects of our business
and also participate within the guidelines of our operation
procedure. This is demonstrated with our work with
licensed premises and door entry screening. Your
flexibility to attend a none arranged task when officers stopped a vehicle suspected of having controlled substances
helped us enormously.
We have found your personality
to be infectious and a warm member of our team when dealing
with operations.
I am grateful to you for your
efforts and look forward to the future.
Sgt Scott Gallagher, 1435. North
Wales Police
