The Home Office last week recognised suppliers who have driven down costs and helped to deliver more than £140 million in savings for the public purse.
Wagtail, suppliers of specialist detention dogs and Eamus Cork Solutions, providers of staff training, produced individual money-saving initiatives that have saved an estimated £82 million by preventing the entry into the UK of over 4,000 illegal immigrants in 2010-11. Permanent Secretary Helen Ghosh said: ‘Good relationships with our suppliers have never been more important. This conference is a chance to recognise the valuable contributions from suppliers of all sizes and share best practice to ensure we continue to drive down costs.’
In August 2008 the company was awarded a contract to supply body detection dogs to the Home Office (UK Border Agency) in Northern France. Wagtail UK staff are working with UK Border Agency officers at Calais, Coquelles and Dunkerque to search freight and ensure that the UK’s border security is maintained. This contract supplements the work of existing UK Border Agency search teams ensuring the success of body detection dogs can be expanded and used to search freight 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
This is the third year running that Wagtail UK has been recognised at the awards ceremony, having being shortlisted for an award for the past two years.
Collin Singer, Managing Director, Wagtail UK Limited said “I am delighted that our contribution over the past 12 months and indeed the 30 months duration of our contract has been formally recognised by the Home Office. This is a magnificent achievement by the team who have ensured our body detection dog contract has been such a success”
